Because there are more Content filters yet to be added to Photology!

We’ve got several additional content filters in development, but they weren’t ready for the intial release and are stuck in the shop until a later release.

If you have a content filter that you want to see added to Photology, send us an email.

I’m sorry to say I’m disappointed… it’s such a brilliant idea, and I was really excited when it became free but it just doesn’t really help me… we should be able to create our own filters and manually change which filters each photos fit into. Also, what’s the point of having groups when you can’t even name them?

Danielle - On your two points, I have some good news and some bad news. First the good news: you absolutely can change the names of your groups:
1. Click on the “groups” button in the lower-left of the screen. The Groups panel will open up.
2. Click on the name of the group that you wanto to change the name of. The group name will be editable.
3. You can check out the video tutorial at (http://www.getphotology.com/tutorials/?p=9) for details.

Now the bad news. Creating filters is, unfortunately, not really simple — that’s why we didn’t make user-definable filters. Our filters require a lot of programming effort: image processing, statistics and artificial intelligence training all get mixed in. Also, we’ve found that about 5,000 photos are required to train a filter so that it achieves reasonable performance; sadly, this is also about the number of photos that people tend to have for a particular subject matter. The end result is that they’d be better off just manually keywording their photos for the new filters they want.

If there is sufficient interest, we’d entertain the idea of making some of our training tools available, so consider your vote for user-definable filters counted!
